Speech Therapy for Childhood Apraxia & Articulation

What Is Childhood Apraxia of Speech?
Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder where the brain struggles to coordinate the precise movements needed for speech. Children with apraxia know what they want to say, but their brains have difficulty planning and delivering the motor signals to produce those words accurately.
As a result, speech can sound inconsistent, unclear, or difficult. These children may work harder to talk and may become frustrated when others can’t understand them. Apraxia is not caused by muscle weakness—it’s about the brain’s ability to sequence sounds smoothly and efficiently.
What Is Articulation Delay?
Articulation delays occur when children have trouble producing certain speech sounds clearly and consistently. While it's common for young children to develop sounds at different rates, some sound errors persist beyond typical developmental timelines. For example, a child might substitute one sound for another ("wabbit" instead of "rabbit") or leave out sounds entirely.
Without therapy, these patterns can impact your child’s intelligibility, social confidence, and early academic skills. That’s where our speech therapy services come in.
Our Approach to Apraxia and Articulation Therapy
At Talk Time Telehealth, our sessions are personalized, engaging, and grounded in evidence-based strategies designed specifically for kids ages 5–12. Whether your child has a formal diagnosis of apraxia or is struggling with articulation errors, we meet them where they are—online, in a space that’s familiar and comfortable.
For children with apraxia, we emphasize structured repetition and multisensory cueing to strengthen the brain’s motor pathways. Therapy is focused, consistent, and always adapted to your child’s learning pace. For children with articulation challenges, we guide them through age-appropriate speech exercises, using visuals, modeling, and real-time feedback to correct sound patterns and boost clarity.
We also consider the rhythm, pacing, and prosody of speech—especially important for kids with apraxia who may speak with flat or inconsistent intonation. And throughout it all, we keep parents involved through monthly updates and optional home practice tools.
